Killarney Aged Care
The Killarney Memorial Aged Care facility in southern Queensland has been able to purchase much needed equipment for its 36 residents thanks to a donation from The Honda Foundation and Graeme Collins Honda.
The donation allowed the facility to acquire two lifting harnesses, a shower chair and floor-scrubber to assist nursing staff with daily resident care duties.
With a population of just 880 people, Killarney is a small rural town close to the border of New South Wales, situated 35km from Warwick and approximately two hours drive from Brisbane.
A not-for-profit and community owned low and high-care facility, Killarney Memorial Aged Care has a dedicated, hard-working bank of volunteers who help the facility with a range of activities, including the all-important job of fundraising.
Helping overcome one of the biggest challenges for the town of Killarney, which currently has no doctor living in the town, the aged care facility houses visiting medical and allied health professionals for the benefit of its residents and the community at large.
In addition, Killarney provides eight independent living units and runs the busy ‘Meals-on-Wheels’ service for the town and surrounding areas. It sure is a busy life for everyone working at Killarney.
Manager of the facility, Mr. Brad Jones, acknowledges the help and support of organisations like The Honda Foundation in helping to keep Killarney Memorial Aged Care facility ticking over.
“We are very appreciative of the support given by The Honda Foundation and Graeme Collins Honda. Gifts such as these allow us to continue our work of providing high levels of care to the elderly and disabled in our community and we would encourage other organisations to follow their example.”
