The Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) is the largest and oldest provider of home nursing and healthcare services in Australia. |
Grounded in the principles of care and compassion, RDNS is a not-for-profit organisation, delivering nursing care 24/7 to people in their homes, schools and workplaces.
Caring for people in Greater Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula RDNS has approximately 1,200 nursing and allied health staff who make over 1.5 million visits a year. Each and every day RDNS has over 8,000 people in their care.
The service commenced in 1885 with just one nurse working in the back lanes of the inner Melbourne helping poor families and through the donations and support of the people of Melbourne, the organisation has grown to become an internationally recognised home nursing service.
Today RDNS provides general nursing care along with a wide range of specialist services in areas such as aged care, palliative care, wound care, diabetes, HIV/AIDS nursing and cystic fibrosis care.
RDNS provides services to all people according to assessed needs, irrespective of age, race, religion, presenting illness, or social and economic status. The only criteria for admission is that the client must have a genuine need for care.
