Meniere’s disease is an incurable but manageable condition where excess fluid in the inner ear upsets the ear balance and hearing mechanisms.
This produces hearing loss, dizziness (vertigo) and ringing in the ears (Tinnitus). Menieres affects one in every thousand Australians and is most commonly found in adults in their thirties or older.
Meniere’s can create problems for sufferers in their work, family, personal and social lives resulting in a loss of confidence and independence. Many sufferers experience feelings of anger, frustration, depression and isolation, and are often forced to make significant lifestyle changes in order to effectively manage this debilitating condition.
